Training opportunities

Basic Welding I is for beginners and teaches simple, basic knowledge and skills involved in welding. This course emphasizes the following: safety regulations and basic, electrical current (as it applies to welding), practice welding in training booths on steel plates, safety and proper use of machines and tools, oxy fuel cutting, plasma arc cutting, amperage and current selection on machines, electrode sizing and numbering, basic weld joint design, shielded, metal-arc welding, and metal identification. All students must provide their own safety equipment (i.e., safety glasses, protective clothing, welding headgear, etc.) Basic Welding II is a continuation of Basic Welding I. All enrolled students must have Basic Welding I as a prerequisite. This course introduces more difficult tasks, such as vertical up and overhead welding, and emphasizes the following: welding on carbon steel, stainless steel plate, aluminum plate, practice welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, welding safety practices, good work mannerisms, welding codes and standards, basic weld symbol interpretations, continued shielded metal-arc welding, gas metal-arc welding, and gas tungsten- arc welding. Journeyman Interested in learning about Fiber Optic Splicing This course focuses on: Introduction to Fiber Optics, Understanding Fiber-Optic Terminology, Fiber-Optic Communications, Fiber-Optic Transmission Systems and Components, Optical Fiber, Fiber-Optic Cable, Connectors and Splices, Fiber-Optic Testing, Fiber-Optic Network Design, Fiber-Optic Network Installation and Hand On components. This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to provide lifesaving care to someone in need. Instrumentation for Journeymen; A detailed course that provides the full range of learning objectives through classroom study and lab exercises such that a Journeyman is prepared to work in the field of instrumentation. National Fire Protection Association – NFPA 70E covers standards for electrical safety in the workplace. Throughout this course, you will review the relationship between the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and NFPA 70E. You will also review general NFPA 70E standards and the importance of these standards in maintaining your safety and the safety of others in the workplace. The purpose of NFPA 70E is to provide a working area for employees that is safe from the risk associated with the use of electricity in the workplace. This training provides classroom presentation, written test, hands-on practice and skills testing session. The classroom portion focuses on key information needed for safe operation of a rough terrain forklift and skid steer. The hands-on portion provides the opportunity to practice skills in a safe environment under the direct observation and coaching of our professional instructors. Operator skills will be evaluated using industry standards. The training is not make or model specific but covers concepts common to most types of rough terrain forklifts and skid steer. This Course is designed for Inside Wireman Journeyman that are interested in becoming Cross Trained as a Journeyman Wireman/Telecommunications Tech. The course includes Fiber Optics, Structured Cabling, Installer/Tech Code; Based on the 2023 NEC, Network Technologies, Communication Technologies, to name a few. Any Member Interested in obtaining their NJ Commercial Drivers License is required to complete A DOT approved Commercial Driver Training Course. The JATC will reimburse the member 50% of the cost of the course up to $4000. Reimbursement will be issued to the member after successful completion of the DOT approved course and a valid NJ CDL is obtained. *If you are interested in obtaining your NJ CDL and will seek reimbursement, please contact the JATC by email for details

Reimbursement for the completion of Electrical Inspector ICS and HHS completed through Brookdale Community College. Journeyman interested in becoming an Electrical Inspector will be reimbursed the cost of the Course after successful completion. Contact the JATC for more information.
